FAQ: The Xeric Atlasphere Automatic & GMT
For the most up-to-date information about the status of our project, check our project updates on Kickstarter!

Will I be charge customs/duties when I receive my reward?

Most backers of previous campaigns paid little to no duties. With FREE SHIPPING to most countries, a small tax doesn’t seem so bad; it all depends on your country though. We will do everything in our power to minimize any taxes due, but we can’t forecast what those might be. You can check with your local government on their duties rate if this a concern for you.

Can I get a refund of my Kickstarter pledge?

Kickstarter is a platform that allows start-up companies like Xeric to ask their fellow people to support financially their goals on a trust basis, and in return for that trust offer a reward for that “donation”. We must ask that you accept the nature of this crowd-funding project as it is, a development project and refrain from asking for a refund. This is a project of shared belief and it must remain as such – it is not a platform for shopping – it’s ultimately a donation to a research, development and production cause, at the end of which you are rewarded with a beautiful watch that you have supported through the whole process.

What's the difference between a GMT and an Automatic?

The biggest difference between these movements is the Automatic is a mechanical movement that doesn’t run on a battery. The GMT is a quartz watch which runs on a battery. Quartz watches are more accurate than automatic watches.

The Auto is a 3-hand display. It has an exhibition caseback to see the winding rotor. The GMT has the normal 3-hand display AND a second time zone (GMT), a date display and a full day tracker.

Which colors will have lume?

All Atlaspheres have Super-LumiNova except the Gold series because the floating minutes are white to conceal them against the white outer dial. The orbiting “moon” hand is polished gold. There is no gold lume and if we did white lume then the white floating minutes would not have been visible against a white “moon” hand. A lot of thought when into the decisions and design of each Atlasphere.

Can I request a specific limited edition number?

Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate requests for specific limited edition numbers because multiple people could request the same number. There are only 500 units (per color) of the GMT and only 999 units of the Automatic. That means there are only 7,500 of these Atlasphere watches that will exist. In a world of almost 7.5 billion people, each backer will be one in a million. Cool, right?

Are the limited editions based on when you pledge?

Somewhat. The early delivery rewards will be numbered between 1 and 150. Within those reward levels, the watches will be distributed randomly. This way every backer in that reward level has a chance at low numbers. Earliest backers get the benefit of the watch delivering 90 days before the normal rewards. Non-early delivery GMT backers will receive numbers 151-500. Non-early delivery Automatic backers will receive numbers 151-999.

Are the straps interchangeable? Can I choose my strap color?

Question #1: The leather straps feature a built-in quick release system which allows them to easily be switch without any tools so you can switch it for a different strap.

Question #2: You will have the option in the post-campaign survey to purchase additional straps at Kickstarter-only discounted prices. We’re making them very affordable for you so you can accessorize to your heart’s desire.

Will additional straps be available after the campaign ends?

Yes we do have plans to offer additional straps after the campaign ends. During the survey we hope to allow backers the opportunity to purchase additional straps at a discounted rate. We don’t currently have pricing set, but it’ll be more than reasonable.

Will there be any stretch goals?

Good question. Unlike other Kickstarter campaigns, we don’t design an inferior watch with built-in “stretch goals” to get to the quality we would want for a Xeric watch. We launch with a watch that is high-quality from the start.

  1. Miyota 82S0 Automatic movt with 40 hour power reserve
  2. Custom American Horween Leather straps with built-in, quick release springbars.
  3. Sapphire crystal to protect against daily wear and tear.
  4. 316L Stainless Steel (PVD coating on plated versions)
  5. Super-LumiNova lume on most models.

Some Kickstarter watch campaigns will start with an inferior case, generic leather and stock mineral crystal to start (which aren’t necessarily bad) and then set arbitrary stretch goals for backers to get the watch upgraded, but that’s not our philosophy. We make a product that we’re proud to wear from the get-go and we offer the rewards at affordable, discounted prices.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
